What a Company Key is

A Company Key is a unique 9-digit code from the Ontario Business Registry. It links a business to a ServiceOntario account, and it's needed to make filings for that business, such as filing an annual return or updating the corporation's information.

Corporations created on or after October 19, 2021 received one when they registered. It's free from the ministry, and you can share it with your lawyer or accountant so they can file for you. If you've lost yours, ontario.ca explains how to get it.

When you don't need one

To order a Corporation Profile Report or a Certificate of Status. Both are public records, so they can be ordered for any Ontario corporation without a Company Key or registry account. That's also how CorpReport works: you only need the corporation's number or name.
